15,000 of personal information with HSBC in Switzerland stolen. As stated by the bank based in London, England, on Thursday, March 11, 2010. Data theft is a potential break a foreign customer information being hunted by the country of origin due to avoid paying taxes.
HSBC said the party, a former information technology worker subsidiary HSBC Private Bank (Suisse) in Switzerland, identified by French authorities as Herve Falciani, steal information between late 2006 and early 2007. Customer accounts were all opened before October 2006.
“We strongly regret the situation and apologizes to its clients over threats to their privacy,” said Alexandre Zeller, chief executive of HSBC in Switzerland.
The bank has contacted customers who become victims of data theft. HSBC also not sure if the data had been stolen or will provide opportunities for people who do not have the authority to access the associated account.
The stolen customer information is only happening on customer accounts in Switzerland with the exception of the former branch, HSBC Bank Guyerzeller. However, data thieves can make a holder of the accounts was revealed and known by the tax authorities in their respective countries.
In a few cases of data theft from banks in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, the information offered in other governments who are stalking citizens who had fled to escape the obligation to pay taxes by hiding money in bank accounts in Switzerland.
